DescriptionThe RHS Diary 2017 showcases the work of Caroline Maria Applebee (c.1799-1854) held in the RHS's world famous Lindley Library. Very little is known about Miss Applebee. It is believed she was a talented amateur artist whose works were unpublished. Her paintings (323 in total in the Lindley Library) feature a large range of plants, including the more rare and exotic varieties of the day, which would only survive under glass. This week-to-view diary is illustrated in colour throughout. Author descriptionThe RHS Lindley Libraries hold several collections of drawings made by Asian artists, whether made for the export market to Europe, commissioned by British officials, or, in recent times, made by amateur and professional artists for exhibition and sale in the international market for botanical art. This diary contains examples from some of these collections. |
